Meet Cas and Lisette
Cas & Lisette contacted us to get a better understanding of their financial situation, alongside wanting to make some significant life choices.
Here’s what they had to say about working with the Riverfall Financial team.
What made you seek advice?
In 2021, Cas took advantage of an unexpected opportunity to opt for early retirement from his academic job, without having really looked into pensions and all the associated financial planning one should be doing.
In 2023, Lisette took the decision to have a break from her part-time work as a vet to be able to spend more time with her elderly mother who lives in the Netherlands. In addition, 2023 meant Lisette was approaching her 60th birthday which seemed a good time to finally sit down and take a serious look into pensions.
We found the world of pensions, investments, savings, taxes etc. rather confusing, somewhat overwhelming, and in fact a bit daunting; like the prospect of entering a minefield..! This wasn’t helped by the fact we are both EU citizens (although we have lived and worked all (or most) of our working lives in the UK).
Key questions we had were: Can we actually afford to fully retire now, both at the age of 60, or do we still need some sort of regular income? Cas has a work pension that had already started, but Lisette had four different pension pots - what is the wisest thing to do with those?
What’s been the biggest benefit of working with Riverfall?
Before Riverfall, we knew we had no debts, some savings, some shares and some current and future income from pensions, but we also had so many questions we felt ill-equipped to answer ourselves and so many ‘what if’s’.
Working with Jessica at Riverfall has given us a better understanding of our financial situation and has made us feel more in control of it.
It was very nice to hear a financial planner (Jessica) say “having looked at your financial situation in detail, I must say I am pleasantly surprised”, which did feel like a weight off our minds.
In addition, working with Jessica has given us peace of mind about Lisette’s pension; and having all the ‘bitty bits of pension’ combined into one is great!
How has Riverfall made a difference to your lives
Jessica’s detailed explanations and forecasts of the various bits of our financial situation, as well as her answers to our many (often silly) questions, has certainly given us confidence and peace of mind.
We can now see and are now confident that there is no direct need for either of us to go back to work. This has giving us breathing space; we can now calmly think and plan ahead about where and how we want to live our lives in years to come.
